The Association of Rusenski Lom People’s Park Friends’ Club won a project, financed by the MATRA Programme
The Association of Rusenski Lom People’s Park Friends’ Club won a project, financed by the Kingdom of the Netherlands MATRA Programme. Its execution aims the identification and mapping the Forests of high conservation value (FHCV) on the territory of Dunav State Game-breeding Enterprise, Rusenski Lom and the planned extension of the latter (about 18,000 hectares at total). Representatives of local communities inside and around the Nature Park will take part in the project activities, which will continue for 12 months. Project’s main result will be the development of necessary researches that form one third of the necessary documentation and activities for covering the FSC certificate /Forest Stewardship Council certificate/./.
FSC Certificate
FSC certificate possession confirms to be a circumstance for the woodenware manufacturers in order to offer these at the European market. The certification under the rules of the Forest Stewardship Council FSC guarantees economically profitable, socially-oriented but environmental friendly forest use. There are hardly 3 forest enterprises that have received Forest Stewardship Council’s rating. One of them is situated n the Municipality of Byala, for 10 more the evaluation is forthcoming. There are only 16 organizations worldwide, authorized to issue this certificate. Rusenski Lom – pilot area under a project of the Parks of Bulgaria Association
Rusenski Lom People’s Park Friends’ Club and the Rusenski Lom Nature Park Directorate are partners in a project of the Parks of Bulgaria Association, called „Development of a manual on activities planning in the lands and forest fund that come to NATURA 2000 protected areas and pilot testing in “Lomovete” and “Shumensko Plato”. The project’s goals are as follows: Creation of a detailed tools for the management of the planning in the forests that are included in state’s ecological network; Flying start of the preparatory process for management plans of the protected under NATURA 2000 sites; Inclusion of local communities as well as their civil organizations in the planning and management of NATURA 2000 network on the grounds of the economic and social benefits that bring the nearness of Special protection regime territories and the Special protected areas; Improvement of local NGOs knowledge on the specific issues about the management of the sites under NATURA 2000 and establishment of NGO platform as well as improvement of the cooperation between NGOs and the state organizations in the process of NATURA 2000 network management; Development of operating regulation frame that settles NGOs’ participation in the conservation activities execution in the state forests, which are included in NATURA 2000 network.
Rusenski Lom Nature Park is a pilot area together with the Nature Park of Shumensko Plato. The activities started in the beginning of 2007 and are financed by Civil Society development Programme.
